Tourism in Lahaul Spiti – Explore Lahaul Spiti Valley – Mountains Monasteries

Lahaul Spiti is a big tourist destination in Himachal Pradesh. Lahaul Spiti is blessed with Chandra & Bhaga rivers and is surrounded by high peak mountains as great Himalayas to North, Pir Panjal to South and Spiti & Chandra watershed from East. Lahaul has mix of Buddhist and Hinduism religion. There are wide array of Monasteries and Temples. Kunzum Pass is the entry point to Spiti Valley from Lahaul valley. Hinduism and Buddhism are two main religions in Spiti. Houses are constructed in the Tibetan style, as Lahul and Spiti are quite prone to earthquakes.

The two valley has very cold temperature during winter season. There are huge number of tourist attractions comprises of trekking, climbing at Kanamo Peak, Buddhist monasteries like Kye, Dhankar, Shashur, Guru Ghantal, Khungri &  Tnagyud and visit villages like Langcha, Komic, Dhemul and Lalung.

Rohtang Pass is the place from which travelers can take a panoramic view of drastic landscape comprises of lush green Kullu Valley, brown mountains, glaciers and snowfields. Lahaul Spiti is a vast area of high mountains and deep valleys. It is surrounded by Ladakh in north, Tibet in east and Kullu valley in south. Spiti valley is connected to Lahaul through Kunzam pass, having a height of 4500 meter. The Spiti valley is regarded as little Tibet & have over 30 monasteries.








Kyi Gompa: A largest & oldest monastery of Spiti Valley built during 16th century at elevation of 4116 meter. A major festival Chaam is held here every year during June-July.

Kibber: Known as Khyipur is highest village in world at height of 4205 meters. See monastery and Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary. Take amusement of cultural traditions and Ladarcha festival held in July month.

Tabo Gompa: A largest monastery complex of Buddhist religion built in ad 996 by Ringchen Zangpo. This gompa is declared as a protected monument and have sculptures, stucco images and wall paintings.

Dhankar Gompa: This famous gompa was build around 1000 years ago at an altitude of 3870 meter.

Kunzam: Mountains pass of a height of 4551 meters. Visitors can starts trekking from Kunzum to moon Lake Chandratal. Visit Kunzam Devi temple and 800 years old pilgrimage sites Guru Ganthal gompa located in Tupchiling.

Khardong Gompa: It is located opposite to Bhaga Valley from Keylong. This is 900-year old gompa related to Drukpa Kagyud sect.

Shahsur Gompa: Built during 16th-century and is located at three km away from Keylong and its related to Gelukpa sector osf Buddhism and devoted to lama of Zanskar. An annual festival held every year between June-July and is showcasing music, masked dances and a long thangka, Buddhist scroll painting.

Trekking in Lahul Spiti: In Lahaul a trekking route is from Darcha in Bhaga Valley to Zanskar and en-route trekkers can visit noted Phuktal gompa. Another trekking route is from Chandra Lake to Baralacha Pass.

  1. Climbing is the activity in which people like to climb on hills through several kinds of instruments like rope and other types of tools which help them to climb on hills. In India several people like this adventure due to lot of excitements and hooting moments. Most of the poeple like to visit himachal pradesh where places like Lahaul Spiti where they can enjoy their climbing activites properly and joyfully.
